THE BARINGO HALF MARATHON

The Baringo Half Marathon is an Athletics Kenya (AK) sanctioned road race that is a key component in the Kenya National Half Marathon event schedule. Popularised and patronised by the International Olympics Committee (IOC) members and renowned local Olympic runners, the race is a popular meeting point for both established and upcoming athletes and draws its participants from far and wide, including Koibatek, Marakwet, Laikipia, Keiyo, Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Nyandarua, Kisii, Machakos, Nairobi and Kajiado (Ngong) regions.

The marathon provides opportunities for discovering and developing young running talent and makes a worthy contribution to the economic and social well being of the community. Lotto Foundation gave a grant of Ksh 4 million, which went towards mobilizing athletes in the community, touring schools to identify student talent, and encouraging participation in the marathon. These local students and aspiring athletes will then be trained and mentored by professionals.

With up to 40,000 spectators participating, the Marathon is regionally recognized as a forum advocating for peace and mitigating tribalism. The event is also dedicated to creating awareness of poverty, educating and empowering youth, and reducing criminality while fostering potential athletic careers.
